With each passing day, the use of blood components is becoming more and more popular in medical aesthetics. You may have heard of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich growth factors in the name of blood concentration to rejuvenate your skin and hair.
However, did you know the next-generation treatment of platelet concentrate is also available? That is PRF. PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, is a component of your blood and the next step in the evolution of skin rejuvenation.
Let’s talk about PRF, how it is obtained, what makes it different from PRP, and what its benefits are. We have also mentioned where you can go to get PRF injections for skin rejuvenation if you’re located in Dallas, TX.
What Is PRF Injection?
Simply put, PRF injection, like PRP injection, involves your body’s own blood components to rejuvenate the skin. It is a fibrin matrix that is comprised of the growth factors, platelet cytokines, and cells to promote the rejuvenation of your skin, especially undereye skin.
The autologous growth factors (concentration of patient’s own growth factors) of the PRF are widely used in a vampire facial to improve skin texture and increase the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen.
How Is PRF Obtained?
Platelet-rich fibrin is obtained in three simple steps. First, your blood is drawn into a tube after numbing the injection site. Then the blood tube is spun in the centrifuge machine for at least five minutes. The centrifugation process separates the components of the blood from the desired nutrient-rich cells called PRF. Lastly, when centrifugation is complete, the PRF is drawn into the syringe from the top of the tube and used for rejuvenation purposes.
A blunt-tipped cannula is used to inject the PRF into the treatment site.
How Is PRF Different From PRP?
For PRP, the blood is spun at high speed. For PRF, on the other hand, blood containing tube is spun in a special low-speed centrifuge machine that isolates the white blood cells and platelets from the red blood cells. Additionally, the anticoagulants are not added in PRF.
PRF contains more platelets per mL compared to the PRP. You can find leukocytes (WBCs) and mesenchymal stem cells in PRF but not in PRP.
Benefits of PRF
If you have certain aging-linked issues on the face, such as dark circles, deep folds and tear troughs, fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss, you can benefit from PRF injections. The fibrin matrix of the PRF keeps the cells in PRF more active, which allows for a longer and slower release of the growth factors. This slower release of the growth factors over time contributes to a better rejuvenation process.
